Konami has unveiled brand new prizing for the greatest players in the TCG scene, who are able to conquer more than a thousand other competitors and reach Day 2 of the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments – the YCS. The new prizes have players extremely excited, as one possibility alongside nine others that are almost equally as awesome, is to receive a copy of Gagaga Magician and an exclusive sticker, exclusive to the great, but not the best, players.
We spoke to a professional Yu-Gi-Oh! pack opener and 4x YCS winner Ruxin34 about the new prize structure of a card and a sticker you could place on it. You could place somewhere else too, like your forehead for example.
“Wow, I mean. Wow. That’s a huge change. You have, um, the Gagaga Magician, and he’s, uh, he’s a very famous card.” After looking up from his phone, Ruxin34 added: “It says here that the main character Yuma uses it. I thought Yugi was the main character, but, you know, things change.”
Keeping in mind Ruxin34’s knowledge of the game’s finances, we asked whether or not the new cards are a good incentive for more people to play in the YCS. “Gagaga Magician, he’s very well know, very famous, so if I remember correctly he’s 5 cents now, but there’s Duelist League 15 Rare versions going for so much as $3.50.” Incredibly, after double-checking with recent TCGPlayer prices, Ruxin34 was completely spot on about a card version that we’ve literally haven’t heard before.
He continued: “The sticker looks like it’s premium paper, I’d say that’s worth at least a whole dime. We’re looking at a total of three sixty, maybe even four dollars. If we compare it to the prizing of getting to the YCS Day 2 previously, which was, uh, nothing, we can divide it by that and… Wow, yeah, my calculator is showing an error. That means it’s probably a big value difference. Pro players should be pretty happy about this change.”
In addition to YCS Day 2 prizes, players who reach Top 32 will get some Edison card and a ‘you were this close’ sticker, while the best of the best, the Top 16, will get a fantastic Ultra-Rare version of our namesake, Effect Veiler, and a sticker proudly proclaiming: ‘ayy u did it!’. Experts calculated a single card like that to be worth more than triple of the previous prizing structure, which had particularly lucky YCS winners receiving an air fryer.
