In a shocking turn of events, local internet commenter and generally unpleasant dude Obelisk_Blew037 was seen as almost correct in his complaints about the current Master Duel meta and its top deck. Obelisk’s often-derided takes concerning Yugioh, women’s rights and the best ways to prepare a steak have created an aura of mass societal repugnance and a level of infamy rarely found in communities outside of card games. This time, however, Obelisk’s comments not only weren’t removed by the Reddit mods, but they actually received quite a lot of support.
“Whoever decided to put full Maliss with NO BANS deserves to be FIRED! Every single game I played for the last 300 matches are just BRAINDEAD cyberse combo [expletive removed] that ends in a billion interrupts or a 12k damage OTK that extends through multiple negates. BANISH. BANISH. BANISH. I hope the idiot who decided to milk the playerbase by printing this UR-only archetype here gets a [expletive removed] shoved in their [expletive removed].” The anger over Maliss’ domination in Master Duel continued for a few more comments in a long chain, all with hundreds of upvotes.
Other commenters were puzzled by how much they agreed with the general sentiment, if not the way it was presented. “Can’t believe I’m with Obelisk_Blew037 on this. Wow. It feels weird, like I’m holding hands with Hitler, or agreeing with Elon Musk on the Epstein files.”
We asked a veteran moderator of the MasterDuel subreddit sCoolServant about Obelisks behavior online and the mod team’s response to it. “We obviously banned him the first few times, but somewhere after Obelisk_Blew029 we realized he will just keep coming back, so we only throw down the banhammer only when he does something real bad, like sending death threats to people who played ‘the most broken bullcrap deck in history of card games’. It was Unchained. Obelisk sent death threats over Unchained. He also made petitions to ban Blue-Eyes in Master Duel. We’d say he’s completely nuts until he actually gets something right.”
It appears most newer moderators don’t get the memo at first and ban Obelisk at the first transgression, and only much later they realize the importance of ‘fans’ like him:
“That guy is a litmus test for the metagame. In the rare case his incessant whining actually resonates with you, you know the format is awful,” explained sCoolServant.
Masterduelmeta.com owner Dkayed has reportedly agreed to create a tier above Tier 1 for dominant decks like Maliss, called “The Annoying Guy on my Subreddit” Tier.
