Deck Profile: 4-0 Ghostricks W/ 9×19 mm Glock Engine

Hey all, today I managed to do what many considered to be impossible in the current meta – I won my very competitive locals with none other than Ghostricks! To achieve this I mixed it up the typical list with a personal favorite of mine – a compact 9×19 mm Glock engine. I’m here to give the rundown of the event, the entire decklist and, finally, go over some side-decking strategies.

Round 1: 2-1 vs Blue Eyes (🎲 Won)

Game 1 I managed to set up a tiny board with one interrupt thanks to the opponent’s handtraps, but luckily it was enough since they didn’t get any extenders. Game 2 they went full combo and I didn’t draw any interrupts… Game 3 my board didn’t stand a chance and the opponent broke it, leaving me with 2000 LP and two Spirit Dragons on board. Luckily I drew my Glock and it was enough to win the game!

Round 2: 1-0 vs Maliss (🎲 Lost)

Game 1 went very slowly, since my opponent was reading all my cards. I’m not too familiar with Maliss either and the combos did go long. Artifact Lancea in the main deck stopped their plays for a bit and the Glock was enough to finally end the game, but we ran out of time right after sideboarding. I’m interested in playing against Maliss again, now that I know all the cards!

Round 3: 2-0 vs Mitsurugi Ryzeal (🎲 Won)

VERY strange “game”. The opponent clearly wasn’t comfortable while we were shuffling and asked me what I was playing (maybe a bad experience from the last round). I showed him my Ghostricks and he seemed relieved, but when he saw my Glock engine he quit immediately? I think it was a family emergency.

Round 4: 2-0 vs ???

My opponent didn’t even bother showing up! How rude! You’d think that people in the finals would care more, even if it is a locals!

Overall I had a great experience. The game shop I was playing in was very accommodating and the owner was super nice – he even gave me some extras packs and a playmat just for winning! He also offered cash from the register, but I know Kazuki Takahashi never wanted money to be involved in prizing, so I graciously refused.

Side-deck strategies

Side decking is quite simple – Mummy (bestie #1) and Siren (bestie #2) aren’t the strongest Ghostricks, but I do like having them around. Still, they might be better replaced by going first cards like Solemn Strikes or going second cards like Lightning Storms. If you’re expecting to play against a deck with a lot of summons from the deck or extra, consider Mulcharmies. Sometimes the Glock combo is a bit too telegraphed, so you can side in a playset of Glock Suppressors. For a mirror match, consider Glock Hollow Point ammo when going first. The deck has a single copy of Kevlar Armor in case you run into handtraps and have to end your turn on nothing. I’ve heard it’ll be very popular once K-9 hit the TCG.
